Casa Valentina at the Movies – A huge success!

2018-09-04T17:48:38-04:00September 16th, 2015|Uncategorized|

Our Casa Valentina at the Movies event on September 15 was a huge success!

Short Term 12 is a fantastic movie, which richly deserves all of the acclaim it has been receiving. We were honored to have the opportunity to hear insights from the film director, Daniel Destin Cretton, after the movie (via Skype).

Thanks to Kareem Tabsch and O Cinema Miami Shores for hosting our event, and to Mary Murphy from 360 Degree Communication, the film distributor.

Thanks to our Program Director, Natalia Giordano, who did a beautiful job of tying the themes of the film back to our work at Casa Valentina.

Thanks to Board of Directors member Susan Lampen, who raised excellent questions and issues during the Q&A session – and who first heard about this powerful film.

Thanks to Board of Directors member Marcia Reisman, who put together an elegant and inviting reception, and who worked with the theater and film distributor to make the event possible.

Most of all, thanks to everyone who came to our event. It was a spectacular evening!

Great chocolates for a great cause!

2018-09-04T17:58:32-04:00September 8th, 2015|Uncategorized|

Two weeks from tonight, you can enjoy some great chocolates while supporting a great cause!

Please plan to stop by Cao Chocolates on September 27 between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to sample their delicious chocolates, and taste wine, cheese and other gourmet items.

All attendees are asked to bring cleaning supplies for Casa Valentina residents. Providing our youth with cleaning supplies reinforces the importance of keeping a clean and safe home. Your donation helps us help our clients!

Cao Chocolate’s confections are handmade using 100% Venezuelan cacao, quality ingredients, and fine liquors. Decadent selections include truffles, molded chocolates, dipped fruits, and more.

The store is located at 9804 SW 77th Avenue.

Hope to see you there! Don’t forget your cleaning supplies!

YOU can make a difference for our residents…

Casa Valentina Executive Director Deborah Korge and Board of Directors Chair Sharon Langer penned a heartfelt letter, which was included in our 2013 brochure.

Please read below to learn how your contribution to Casa Valentina can make a difference in the lives of our residents …

Dear Friends:

Because of you, Casa Valentina is able to help youth who do not have any place to go when they transition from foster care.  Since we opened in 2006 with six young women, we have grown four-fold and have helped approximately 100 young men, young women and mothers with babies by providing housing, weekly life skills, individual counseling, academic support  – to name a few of our services.  How do we do this?  Through your generosity.

As we struggle to meet the increasing demand for our services, we hope you will make a donation to support these young people. Your gift will directly impact real people. …  The services we provide are possible because of donors like you.  Any amount you give will help to change the lives of these young people.

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is “What are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thank you for your support,

Deborah Korge, Executive Director          Sharon Langer, Chair, Board of Directors

Casa Valentina residents giving back

2018-09-05T11:36:33-04:00April 1st, 2015|Uncategorized|

With service projects throughout the year, we offer our residents opportunities to give back to the community that is so supportive of our program.

Our clients recently enjoyed two great activities: preparing and serving a meal at the Homeless Assistance Center, and wrapping Christmas gifts for children who attend St. Albans Child Enrichment Center.

We thank the Social Outreach Committee of St. Philips Episcopal Church for inviting us to join the church gift-wrapping project. We love to help out each year!
