Denise’s “Life” at TEDxYOUTH

We are so incredibly proud of Casa Valentina resident Denise. A talented spoken-word artist, Denise was selected to participate in the recent TEDxYouth@Miami event at the Adrienne Arsht Center. She presented her original piece, “Life”. In this moving verse, Denise shows her resilience and strength.

Despite challenges and losses during her childhood, Denise has always excelled in school. Although she is only 19, Denise is currently in her junior year at Florida International University, with a double major in communications and business. She is a very accomplished poet and performer, and has won numerous prizes and recognition for her work.

Denise was chosen from a large field of applicants, as one of 12 presenters for TEDxYouth@Miami. TEDx events are an offshoot of the TED conference, which has been devoted to “ideas worth spreading” since 1984. TEDx gives communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to create inspirational dialogue at the local level. They combine live presentations and TEDTalks videos to spark conversation and connections. Denise was especially honored to be chosen as the final speaker of the evening.

We are delighted that Denise had the opportunity to present as part of TEDxYouth@Miami. And we know that everyone who was fortunate enough to hear her performance will not soon forget her powerful words.
